To commemorate the 90 years past after certain event in Russian history known as the “October Revolution”
- WHAT DOES THE 1917 OCTOBER REVOLUTION MEAN TODAY?
a blip in the history of Russia?
people’s will or inevitable fate?
was the nation’s tragedy that followed a direct consequence of 1917?
why in Russia?
did it bring the enlightenment?
did it make Russia great?
was it the beginning or the end?
a new religion or denial of any faith?
who is to blame, and what is to be done? (kto vinovat i chto delat’?)

- WHAT TO EXPECT?
Two brief fragments from historical films, to set the scene;
A few short and sparkling speeches;
Contrasting opinions, ardent but cultured discussions;
Plenty of opportunities to put across your view/challenge others;
Vodka, gherkins and other pleasantries at the end!

BBC Radio Talk on Tchaikovsky
The morning conversation on the BBC “Cambridgeshire Calling” show dedicated to the anniversary of the Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s death (6 November, 1893). The conversation will be held on the phone between Vladimir Orlov, PhD Student in Musicology at the University of Cambridge, and Stacey McCarthy , BBC Broadcast Assistant.

The beneficial service for the CU Russian Society proved to be the most outstanding activity during the past years! If you, like Mikhail Lermontov, feel the immeasurable power of yourself (“чувствую в себе силы необъятные!”), or if you find it might be useful for you or if you are just interested in joining the CU Russian Society Committee, please come to our freshers leaders day. Nothing is required from you (even Russian language is not obligatory); please come and relax in the friendly atmosphere of Russian battle-hardened veterans of the Society. Enjoy our jokes and happy spirits, and especially our free juice, tee, coffee and famous CURS Bouillon with real crackers in it!
