Boris Grebenshikov

SRI CHINMOY CENTRE is kindly sponsoring the CU Russian Society with FREE TICKETS to the concert of great artist, the hope and soul of the generations of Russia and outside of it

BORIS GREBENSHIKOV

(Listen to an interview about the concert: )

Please visit the amazing website of the concert which glaringly expresses the enormous love and appreciation of Boris Purushottama!

WHEN: 19 May, 7:45pm
WHERE: Royal Albert Hall
How to get there

What is going to be:
In comparison with the last year’ concert of Aquarium at the Royal Albert Hall, this time Boris Purushottama will introduce the completely different style and music. Instead of electrical “Rockian” sounds this concert will constitute the subtle and highly delicate matters; mostly the acoustic instruments will be involved, such as delicious and extravagant sitar, sarangi, played by the students of Sri Chinmoy mixed with classical instruments: violin, cello and always-indispensable guitar (Boris Grebenshikov himself).

Therefore we might consider that the lyrics will be dominant (please mind, however, that the normal habits of Boris Borisovich are to break down all the expectations always surprising the audience), though there will be many completely new compositions presented at the concert.

This is the link of the similar concert (with the presence of Sri Chinmoy) was played at the United Nations headquarters in New York in August 2007.

Some FAQ

1. No, we could not comment on or help you whether to choose which Boris Grebenshikov concert to attend. The Cambridge concert, scheduled after the major one in the Royal Albert Hall, is going to be of a completely different genre (vocal + guitar). The date of the Cambridge concert, as well as the concert itself, is not confirmed yet. Please see our future announcements.

2. The concert is organised by the Sri Chinmoy’ friends and students in memory of Sri Chinmoy, in accordance with his wishes to establish this concert one more time (he was intended to make this concert in his own presence).

3. Please do not provide us with your mailing address, the tickets will not be sent to you by post, they will be handled to all attendants at the same day before the concert. (Presumably we shall be granted with the table at the Southern Entrance of the Royal Albert Hall, like last year. This all will be announced.) Please consider that this happened last year and nothing wrong happened, i.e. we guarantee you the situation will be operated correctly. We will notify everybody about the tickets in person.

4. Please check carefully the details and links above, the information is given as fully as possible.

MSTISLAV ROSTROPOVICH, IN MEMORIAM

May 11, 2008   //   by councillor   //   Uncategorized  //  No Comments

CU RUSSIAN SOCIETY is proud to present:

“MSTISLAV ROSTROPOVICH, IN MEMORIAM”

A recital by The Legendary

ALEXANDER IVASHKIN (Cello)

and IRINA SCHNITTKE (Pianoforte)

Dear CURS Friends!

We cordially invite you to the concert, which we honestly believe is invaluable to all of us!

Here are just some references to the Artist invited by us:

Outstanding cellist” – Mstislav Rostropovich
His cello sounds like an orchestra, with lyric and tragic spirit at the same time!” – Corriere del Ticino
Ivashkin is a cellist we should hear more often” – The Financial Times

Indeed, the world fame of Alexander Ivashkin could only be compared with the glory of Mstislav Rostropovich — his close friend and colleague.

These artists have been representing the highly renowned tradition of Russian cello playing; and in the same vein as Rostropovich’s unfading thirst for the new compositions for cello — which stipulated the birth of the real masterpieces by Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Liutoslavski, etc — Alexander Ivashkin is leading the cello repertoire, introducing the first performances of the new works by the most famous composers of today (Alfred Schnitke, Krzysztof Penderecki, more than 50 world premieres).

Alexander Ivashkin has given concerts in all parts of the planet, in the most prestigious concert halls, with the most famous conductors, companions and orchestras… The phenomena of Alexander Ivashkin deserves a special description — please see the web-site:
http://www.alexanderivashkin.com

And now — for the first time — he is coming to Cambridge!
