CURS Nabokov Essay Contest, deadline 15 August (extended!)

How does it feel to be a “White Russian” (in Vladimir Nabokov’s own words) in the country where everything is the other way round? Even in the 1950s Nabokov could not forget his stinging experience of studying at Cambridge: “I still feel in my bones the bleakness of the morning walk up Trinity Lane to the Baths”. (Speak, Memory, 1951; revised in 1967.)

CU Russian Society has launched the first Nabokov Essay Contest to commemorate 30 years since Nabokov’s death in 1977 and you are very welcome to participate whether you are a native Russian speaker or not!

The submitted essays will be read and assessed by professors and students according to the literary talent of the contestants. The winners will receive special prises and certificates, with their work published in the CU Modern Languages Journal and on the CURS website.

We look forward to receiving your submissions!

Sincerely yours,
CURS Committee
