This time it was a presentation of Quastel Midgen LLP, a relatively small but quickly developing legal firm. What is really exciting is that one of its founding partners, Jonathan Gross, is an alumnus of our University.

During the presentation we had a substantial introduction to the firm’s specialisation which is mainly legal branches related to immigration and real estate. The part on immigration actualities was extremely useful for the majority of the audience.

Also some of the attendees discussed an opportunity to undergo practical training during this summer.

The event was attended not only by CURS members but also by students from other societies: CU Korean, CU Australia and New Zealand Society, CU Ukrainian, CU Eurasia Society and many others.

The text of the Dictation was written by Dina Rubina, a prominent Russian prose writer. To be honest, the text itself was difficult enough for many of those who dared to test one’s spelling and punctuation skills. But at the same time, many participants agreed that it was a good way to try to remember everything you learned at school and understand what else should be improved.

We would like to thank the organisers or the Dictation for the great opportunity to be a part of this initiative. Also we express our gratitude to all who came to check their level of literacy last Saturday. You can find few pictures of people writing dictation here.

The CURS Vodka Party 2013 can only be described as a resounding success! After an extensive process of preparation, the night was finally upon us, with an unprecedented number of people attending!

We are proud to have treated you to a great variety of top-quality vodkas, ranging from ones that could be found in the UK to the most unique Siberian vodkas and Udmurtian liquers. With a total of six societies- Russian, Estonian, Finnish, Hungarian, Romanian and Ukrainian- participating, there was also a variety of luxury and local foods such as Russian caviar, salmon, sardines, pelmeni and even desserts to enjoy! We made sure the night was a complete and authentic experience, entertaining our guests with music from the home countries of the participating groups and a raffle.

We would like to thank all those who helped with advertising and spreading the enthusiasm we ourselves feel for this event! The Vodka Party is a central event in the CURS calendar, where we come together with others who share our vision to increase our visibility within the University community, and provide a great night for students and friends in Cambridge! Overall, there were over 500 extremely happy attendees, so BRING ON VODKA PARTY 2014!

Overall, the supporter mission turned out eventful and pleasant, even despite one refusal to enter a local Anfield pub (most probably, for the better of all) and one attempt to provoke violence from local hooligans successfully prevented by a Liverpool police convoy (kudos to the attentive officers).

Besides compulsory sightseeing, our tour of Liverpool the next day featured the tasting of famous Scouse in a pub coincidentally called Baltic Fleet. This name, heart-warming for any Petersburger, is owed to Russian sailors of the said fleet who, in mid-19th century, frequently used to eat at this still very hospitable pub close t to the Albert Dock. Merseyside certainly had mercy.
